Science
by Hardcourt,

The focus for second grade centers on
students analyzing collected data over a
period of time to make predictions and
understand change. Students look at heat
as a way of changing properties of
objects and motion as being related to
position and time. Students will be
actively involved in: conducting long
term investigations to define change,
using tools to collect data, and looking
at change in properties, changes in
weather, and concepts of sound.
These are very exciting hands-on
programs which explore weather solids,
liquids, gasses, plants, animals and
sound. These programs integrate
hands-on, real world science with
interactive multimedia materials.
Changes in rate scale and pattern will
be the focus of their investigation.
Science experiments will be planned on a
regular basis.

Communication Policy
Communication is the key to a successful
year. We will send home a monthly
calendar and usually a weekly letter.
When you ask your child what they did in
school that day the usual response is
"nothing." Rather than that question,
Ask them to tell you one thing they
learned each day. Hopefully they will
have a response.
Conferences are scheduled system wide
twice a year, but we will be happy to
meet with you any time. Please write a
note or call the school to schedule a
meeting whenever you would like to
discuss your child's progress. St.
Gabriel's number is 704-366-2409.
Once
again, please have your child arrive at
school on time. Consistently being tardy
gets your child off to a wrong start.
Have them there between 7:30 and 7:45
AM. If your child is absent, please send
in a note when he or she returns to
school.
