exceptionalities. Promotes understanding of all exceptional
children. Updates professional knowledge through journals.
Offers evaluation services through Screen-O-Rama. Recognizes
professionals who provide services for exceptional children.
Provides in-service training to administrators and teachers
about effective practices of exceptional children's
programming.

Services:
Offers individual assistance with educational problems.
Conducts parent education workshops in these areas: special
education laws; writing effective IEP's (Individualized
Education Programs); inclusion; preschool transition to
school; transition from school to adult planning;
communication schools; parent adjustment; exceptional parent
leadership planning; and other topics upon request.
ECAC also
offers information and referral services, sends out a
newsletter, has a lending library, offers parent to parent
support and information and assistance to parent support
groups. All of ECAC's parent educators are parents of
children with disabilities. ECAC is the statewide training
and information center for North Carolina parents of
children with disabilities.
The
disabilities they cover include: learning, orthopedic,
physical, behavioral, emotional and multiple disabilities;
visual, hearing and health impairments; mental retardation;
speech problems; autism; and traumatic brain injuries.
