St. Gabriel School
continues to ensure that its students receive an outstanding
education in Math.

You have probably
read about the new
Everyday Mathematics program that all MACS schools have implemented. Teachers, parents and
students have high praise for this program.

But did you know of two
other math initiatives at St, Gabriel School?
First, St. Gabriel School
purchased the
SuccessMaker Math
software from Pierson Digital, a division of Pierson
Publishing. Pierson Publishing also owns Myschoolonline
which hosts the St. Gabriel School web site. SuccessMaker
Math is a powerful adaptive program that adjusts the
difficulty of the math instruction based on the needs of the
student.
SuccessMaker Math individualizes instruction to the specific
needs of each student by:

Automatically presenting instruction at the level at
which a student is ready to learn--a level neither too
easy nor too difficult--creating a successful learning
experience
-
Adjusting the presentation of content to find the
optimal sequence of instruction based on student
response
-
Guiding learning by employing a variety of instructional
strategies when a student has difficulty and providing
multiple opportunities to master each concept
-
Periodically activating retention checks during the
learning process to ensure retention of previously
presented skills
-
Emphasizing specific content areas where students need
to focus
-
Reporting powerful data to identify student areas of
difficulty and help teachers effectively target
instruction
Initially, this program was
available to the students only in the computer lab. Now, the
Technology Department is making the SuccessMaker Math
program available to the teachers and students on all
computers in the classrooms and the Media Center. Students
can log onto Successmaker at any time to improve their math
skills.
Second, the fourth and
fifth grade students and their parents can now access
Math Assessments
and reviews on their class web site. These assessments,
provided by the e-Learning Foundation, are coordinated with
the Everyday Math program and enable the students and their
parents to ascertain their math progress and to reinforce
key math concepts. These assessments can be accessed from
any Internet computer at any time, yes, even over week-ends
and during vacations.
