Counseling
altThe focus of the counseling program at St. Gabriel Catholic School is to encourage each student to reach his or her maximum potential. Throughout the school year, counselors work with children individually, in small groups and in classroom guidance lessons. Through these services, academic and social interventions are provided to help students move toward academic success. Referrals for individual and small group counseling can be made by parents, teachers, administrators and students.

Individual Counseling
Students can see the counselor and work with her for a variety of reasons including anxiety, organization, study skills, friendship problems, coping with stress, self-control, grief and loss, and issues related to self-esteem and divorce/separation.

Small Groups
Small group counseling is provided based upon the needs of the students.  The counselor will assess these needs based upon referrals throughout the school year. Topics for small groups might include divorce/separation, study skills, anger management, bullying awareness and social skills.

Classroom Guidance Lessons
The kindergarten classrooms receive guidance lessons on a weekly basis for thirty minutes. The first and second grades receive guidance every other week for thirty minutes. The third, fourth and fifth grades receive guidance every other week for forty-five minutes. Some topics include, but are not limited to, bullying awareness, social/communication skills, tattling v. reporting, peer pressure, conflict resolution, safety, diversity and friendship.

Parents are encouraged to contact the counseling staff  at any time throughout the year with any questions or concerns regarding their child.
