Classroom Teachers
Kindergarten
Nancy Chiarelli, KA
Mrs. Chiarelli is a graduate of Belmont Abbey College where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education. In addition to her elementary teaching experience, she has served as a preschool Director. She is Orton-Gillingham trained and the previous Director of Kamp Gabe 4 Kids, a summer camp held at St. Gabriel Catholic School. In May of 2021, Mrs. Chiarelli was named the recipient of the Father Frank Excellence in Teaching Award.
Molly Gibbs, KB
Mrs. Gibbs is a Charlotte native. She attended Appalachian State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology with a concentration in English as a Second Language. She completed her Master’s degree in the Art of Teaching K-6 at Queens University of Charlotte. She is also licensed by the state of North Carolina to teach English as a Second Language.
Jennifer Singleton, KC
Mrs. Singleton holds a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education from the University of Kentucky and a Master’s degree in Child and Family Development from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She is a certified Orton-Gillingham instructor and brings extensive experience working with both general and special education students, ages 2 to 13.
Mrs. Singleton and her husband, Sean, are proud parents of two children, Brendan and McKenna, who attend Holy Trinity and St. Gabriel School. The Singleton family is actively involved in the St. Gabriel Parish community.
Dedicated to nurturing the academic and spiritual growth of her students, Mrs. Singleton is deeply committed to helping each child reach their full potential, both in the classroom and in their faith journey.
Christine Giroux, KD
Mrs. Giroux graduated from Belmont Abbey College where she studied Elementary Education. Mrs. Giroux has taught both kindergarten and first grade at St. Gabriel Catholic School, and currently teaches kindergarten. In May 2024, Mrs. Giroux was awarded a Fruits of the Holy Spirit Award for inspiring and helping students achieve their best by exhibiting the Fruits of the Holy Spirit.
1st Grade
Kelly Darling, 1A
Mrs. Darling holds a degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Psychology from Loyola University Chicago. Her previous teaching experience includes preschool, kindergarten, first grade, third grade, and fourth grade. She currently teaches first grade at St. Gabriel.
Sarah Marsha, 1B
Mrs. Darling holds a degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Psychology from Loyola University Chicago. Her previous teaching experience includes preschool, kindergarten, first grade, third grade, and fourth grade. She currently teaches first grade at St. Gabriel.
Carolyn Sutton, 1C
Ms. Sutton has a bachelor’s degree from Randolph Macon, and received her Masters in Early Childhood Development from Oglethorpe University. She taught Kindergarten at Myers Park Traditional before she had her own children, and was an assistant at St. Ann’s. After many years away to raise her children, she joined St. Gabriel School in 2023 and is so excited to be a part of the St. Gabriel Family.
Mary Jane Cowman, 1D
Mrs. Cowman graduated from Elon University with a degree in Elementary Education and Queens University with a Masters in Reading. Her teaching experience includes first and fourth grades in CMS and St. Gabriel. After spending a few years at home to raise her own children, Mrs. Cowman is excited to rejoin the staff at St. Gabriel to teach first grade.
2nd Grade
Mary Lauren Shea, 2A
Ms. Shea was born and raised in Charlotte. Having attended Catholic school for some of her own elementary years, she rejoined the MACS system at St Gabriel School in 2020. Mary Lauren attended Texas Christian University where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and a Master's Degree in Science Curriculum and Instruction.
Hayden Call, 2B
Mrs. Call, a proud Charlotte native, is excited to be teaching in the MACS system as a second-grade teacher after attending St. Patrick, Holy Trinity, and Charlotte Catholic. Mrs. Call earned her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Queens University of Charlotte and previously taught for five years in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Mrs. Call was awarded “New Teacher of the Year” in the 2014-2015 school year and “Teacher of the Year” in the 2017-2018 school year at Eastover Elementary. In May 2024, Mrs. Call was awarded a Fruits of the Holy Spirit Award for inspiring and helping students achieve their best by exhibiting the Fruits of the Holy Spirit. Mrs. Call is thrilled to continue her passion for teaching at St. Gabriel while she also pursues her Master's Degree in Reading Instruction from UNC Charlotte.
Donna Sparre, 2C
Mrs. Sparre earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles. Additionally, she completed a Master’s degree in Elementary Education Instruction and Curriculum. She is passionate about teaching in a Christ-centered environment. Mrs. Sparre’s goal as a teacher is to spark the curiosity of her students and ignite a passion for learning. Her hope is that her students will develop a sense of self and nurture a belief in their capacity to succeed. In May of 2024, Mrs. Sparre was named the recipient of the Father Frank Excellence in Teaching Award.
Michelle Boyle, 2D
Mrs. Boyle graduated from West Virginia University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. She has teaching experience in first, second, third, and fourth grades. She is an Orton-Gillingham trained teacher and uses The Daily 5 as part of her Literacy program. In 2017, The MACS Foundation awarded Mrs. Boyle a GEE Grant for a Kinesthetic Classroom. She currently teaches 2nd grade. In May of 2023, Mrs. Boyle was named the recipient of the Father Frank Excellence in Teaching Award.
3rd Grade
Faith Pilcher, 3A
Ms. Pilcher earned her undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, where she was also a member of the varsity swim team. She completed her Master’s degree in Reading Education at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in May 2024 and is currently pursuing a second Master’s degree in Special Education with a focus on Academically or Intellectually Gifted (AIG) learners. She is trained in the Orton-Gillingham approach to reading instruction. Ms. Pilcher is an active parishioner at St. Gabriel Catholic Church. A fun fact about her is that she has a twin sister and twin younger brothers. She is excited to be part of the third-grade team at St. Gabriel and is passionate about nurturing a love of learning in all her students.
Nikki Warren, 3B
Mrs. Warren is a proud alumna of St. Gabriel Catholic School and Charlotte Catholic High School. She earned her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Appalachian State University and holds a master's degree in Reading, Language, and Literacy from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. In addition, she is certified in the Orton-Gillingham instructional approach.
Throughout her career, Mrs. Warren has been recognized for her dedication and excellence in teaching. She was honored with the Father Frank Excellence in Teaching Award in May 2018 and was named the Hyundai Hometown Hero Teacher Winner in May 2021. Most recently, in May 2024, she received the Fruits of the Holy Spirit Award for her inspiring guidance and her commitment to helping students achieve their best through the example of living out the Fruits of the Holy Spirit.
Mrs. Warren has been a member of the Saint Gabriel Catholic School faculty since 1995. All three of her children are proud graduates of Saint Gabriel, Holy Trinity, and Charlotte Catholic. As a former student, dedicated teacher, and involved parent, Mrs. Warren is deeply committed to the mission and value of Catholic education, having experienced its blessings from every perspective.
Anne Obeck, 3C
Mrs. Obeck graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and Psychology from UNC Chapel Hill. She has teaching experience in 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade classrooms. In addition, she is an Exceptional Children's teacher, having worked with students in grades kindergarten through 5th grade in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System. Mrs. Obeck is incredibly excited about teaching children in an environment where Christ is at the center of all we do. Mrs.Obeck's goal as an educator is to build and encourage life-long learners who are curious about the world around them, compassionate to others, and tenacious about their goals and dreams. In May 2024, Mrs. Obeck was awarded a Fruits of the Holy Spirit Award for inspiring and helping students achieve their best by exhibiting the Fruits of the Holy Spirit.
Lisa O'Herron, 3D
Mrs. O’Herron earned her Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Appalachian State University. She also holds a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Mrs. O’Herron has over 30 years of experience in education, and she is very excited to be a part of the St. Gabriel Family.
4th Grade
Elizabeth Rainwater, 4A
A Charlotte native, Mrs. Rainwater holds a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of Alabama and a Master’s in Educational Leadership from Winthrop University. She is Orton-Gillingham trained and began her teaching career in 2011. After 13 years in CMS and being named Smithfield Elementary’s 2023–2024 Teacher of the Year, she joined St. Gabriel, where she is now in her second year teaching 4th grade. She and her husband, Will, have two young children and are parishioners at St. Gabriel Catholic Church.
Carolyn Lux, 4B
Mrs. Lux holds a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Washington State University. After graduating, she moved to Charlotte and began teaching at St. Gabriel. Mrs. Lux has experience teaching third grade, STEM, preschool and currently teaches fourth grade. She is an Orton-Gillingham trained teacher. In May 2025, Mrs. Lux was awarded a Fruits of the Holy Spirit Award for inspiring and helping students achieve their best by exhibiting the Fruits of the Holy Spirit. Building student connections and a positive learning environment are her passions.
Lauren Pollard, 4C
Ms. Pollard attended UNC Charlotte where she studied Elementary Education and was a member of the Charlotte 49ers Track & Field team. After teaching in public schools in the Charlotte area, Ms. Pollard is extremely thankful to be a member of the St. Gabes family. Ms. Pollard has a passion for helping students grow into successful, respectful, and hard-working young adults.
Julie Reinhardt, 4D
Ms. Reinhardt has had the privilege of teaching elementary-aged students for more than 25 years. Much of her career has been at Sacred Heart Schools in Chicago where she most recently taught 4th grade, Ms. Reinhardt's lifelong love of learning, especially in reading, math and technology, translates to her eagerness to find creative and effective methods to teach and engage students in the learning process. Ms. Reinhardt earned her Master of Education in Educational Technology from National Louis University and her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Iowa State University.
5th Grade
Deven Dickerson, 5A
Originally from upstate New York, Mr. Dickerson earned his Bachelor's Degree from Fredonia State University. He also holds a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Winthrop University. He has over 15 years of experience working with students in 3rd through 5th grade.
Alexa Tymon, 5B
Ms. Tymon is originally from Connecticut and a graduate of the University of Dayton, where she earned both a Master of Science in Educational Leadership and a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education. As an educator, her goal is to inspire life-long learners in an inclusive, supportive classroom environment. She is passionate about inquiry-based learning and enjoys guiding students as they explore, question, and develop their problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Ms. Tymon is excited and blessed to be part of the St. Gabriel community!
Jennifer Cosgrove, 5C
Prior to moving to Charlotte, Mrs. Cosgrove taught in both public and private schools in New Jersey. She taught Kindergarten through sixth grade for over nineteen years. Prior to teaching, she worked with children and their families for seven years in school and mental health settings. She also worked with Catholic Charities in Brooklyn, NY as an adoption and foster care social worker. She has Masters degrees in both Social Work from New York University and Education from Monmouth University.
Meghan Olson, 5D
Mrs. Olson has taught at St. Gabriel's since 2007. Originally from Cincinnati, she graduated from the University of Dayton in 2007 and moved to Charlotte to pursue her early childhood degree. Mrs. Olson received her Master's in Education at Wingate University. Mrs. Olson was named the recipient of the Father Frank Excellence in Teaching Award for the 2019-2020 school year. She loves the community of St. Gabriel's and is excited for her 9th year in fifth grade!
Specials Area Teachers
Jamie Deaver, Art
Mrs. Deaver graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Art Education from the University of South Alabama, with a focus on ceramics. Her ten years’ experience in education includes Residential High School Hall Advisor and Elementary Student Services Assistant roles, and most recently, she taught Art in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School district. Mrs. Deaver is passionate about helping students discover the best version of themselves through creativity, and is excited to teach Art at St. Gabriel Catholic School.
Our weekly art class nurtures creativity and confidence, giving children a supportive space to experiment with materials, express themselves, and grow their artistic skills through engaging, hands-on projects.
Mary Kay Connery, Computer Technology
Mrs. Connery holds a BS from North Carolina State University, a MS from UNC Greensboro, and recently completed a Graduate Certificate in Learning Design and Technology from UNC Charlotte. She is currently the Technology teacher at St. Gabriel and has experience teaching elementary, high school, and adult learners.
Jean Mulligan, Librarian
Mrs. Mulligan attended Slippery Rock University where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and Library Science. She also completed a Master’s of Science program in Informational Studies and Library Science at Rutgers University. She is currently the Media Specialist at St. Gabriel Catholic School.
ThuVân Vũ, Music
Ms. V has been teaching Music Literacy and Choral Music to students in grades K-5 for almost 30 years, and she holds both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in music education. She incorporates a variety of teaching methods into her lessons, such as the Kodály, which includes singing folk songs, playing singing games, different activities, and world music drumming to promote music literacy for all students. Her goal is for all students to be introduced to deeper concepts of music theory, while gaining an appreciation for all aspects of music in an accessible way.
Addy Jean Mullis, Spanish
Señora Mullis has been the Spanish teacher at St. Gabriel Catholic School since 2005. She was born and raised in Ponce, Puerto Rico and attended Sacred Heart/Belmont Abbey College obtaining a BA degree in Biology. She also holds a Master of Arts in Teaching degree from Wingate University.
Patty Martin, PE
Ms. Martin is a Physical Education teacher, Coach, and Athletic Director. She began her career in Illinois after attending Eastern Illinois University where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in K-12 Physical Education. In 2015 she earned a Master’s degree in Administration and Supervision from the University of Phoenix. She has been the recipient of several educational grants for physical education awarded by the Mecklenburg Area Catholic Schools Grants for Excellence in Education. In May 2024, Mrs. Martin was awarded a Fruits of the Holy Spirit Award for inspiring and helping students achieve their best by exhibiting the Fruits of the Holy Spirit.
