The Scholastic Book Fair Jungle is coming March 2nd-6th! We will have an amazing week to discover some wonderful new books. See the hours below and activities planned. And PLEASE signup to help as we can’t do it without our amazing volunteers:

Setup an eWallet with a credit card and a designated amount of money for your child to spend at the book fair (then you don’t have to worry about sending in cash on the right day!). We are lucky to have St. Gabe’s parent and author Catherine Farley selling and signing her book Mimi’s Adventures on Kiawah Island. We also welcome St. Gabe’s parishioners Mary Lou Hindley and Pam Baker Odulio to share and sign their book Pinky Woolly Ices the Cake.

Bidding will begin at 8 a.m.Monday, March 23rd.
Online Auction closes at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 27th
Students will shadow their teacher/staff and participate in a special breakfast just for him or her and the teacher/staff.
How will you rule? Will your child golf with Mrs. Martin, go to the Movies with Mrs. Snoke and Mrs. Fischer, Make Dumplings with Ms. V, or Rule 5A? These are just a few of the exciting options available.

AFTER SCHOOL - WINTER/SPRING 2020
AFTER SCHOOL TENNIS
Please join coach Todd Upchurch, USPTA Master Professional & Director of Serve It UP Tennis Academy and his team for some fun tennis this winter/spring. Tennis is open to students in grades K-5. Class is 3:00-4:00 p.m. on Thursdays. The first winter/spring session will begin on Thursday, February 27. Classes will take place OUTSIDE, on the lower lot blacktop - students will meet instructors immediately after school outside the cafeteria and will walk outside together. BASEBALL - TRIFECTA ATHLETICS
Join Eric Johnson and Trifecta Athletics (www.trifectaathletics.com) for an after-school indoor baseball clinic focusing on hitting and fielding.
This four-week session will be held at Trifecta Athletics. Parents are responsible for getting their child to and from Trifecta. Trifecta is located at 4927 Silabert Avenue.
Clinics will be held on Mondays from 3:00-4:00 p.m. Dates for the winter baseball clinic are January 13 and 27; and February 3 and 10.
In each session, players will work on techniques and skills, such as: the proper fundamentals of fielding a ground ball; getting behind and coming through pop-ups; improving footwork when approaching a ground ball; performing hitting drills to improve offensive hand-eye coordination; learning base running stealing mechanics; and more.

Cooking – Flour Power Studios
Join Flour Power Cooking Studios for winter and spring cooking enrichment programs that are both educational and fun! Each session is six weeks long and is open to all grade levels. Join us as we stir in some math, reading and kitchen science while creating yummy recipes, including winter holiday themed recipes like heart shaped pizzas and Irish soda bread, and spring recipes like spring veggie quiche and pasta primavera.
Class dates for the winter session are January 27; February 3, 10 and 24; and May 2 and 9. Class dates for the spring session are March 23; April 6, 20 and 27; and May 5 and 11.

Little Sticks Lacrosse
Little Sticks Lacrosse provides an introduction to the sport of lacrosse, focused on teaching the right lacrosse at the right time with energetic, kid-centered play! It was founded to provide young student-athletes the opportunity to learn and love the game of lacrosse! The program is driven by experienced coaches dedicated to growing the game with an emphasis on fun, sportsmanship and fundamentals in an instructional, energetic environment.
The Little Sticks programs are co-ed and use real lacrosse sticks but soft balls so that no equipment is required. They offer stick options if needed and additionally offer scholarship opportunities.
Little Sticks lacrosse emphasizes all of the following at each of the sessions: Physical Literacy - Proper Stick Mechanics - Decision Making Skills - Teamwork - Leadership - Spatial Positioning and Awareness.
Sessions are on Wednesdays from 2:45-3:45 p.m. 2019 Spring Session dates are March 11, 18 and 25; April 1, 22 and 29; May 6 and 13. Visit www.littlestickslacrosse.com to register.
AFTER SCHOOL CODING PROGRAMS
VIDEO GAME MAKER FOR GRADES K-5
Video Game Maker is open to children in all grades. In this class, our youngest Coder Kids will embark on their journey to computer science mastery. Coder Kids will discover computer science concepts like sequences, conditionals, loops by creating video games in Scratch Jr. Coder Kids will complete projects including a bubble popping game, a relay race game, and a potion making game.
Our older Coder Kids will build their own action video games using Scratch. Coder Kids will create their own sprites, backgrounds, and power-ups for their games. Coder Kids will also learn to write code to create enemies in their games and variables to keep score.
All Coder Kids will complete the course with a final project of their own design.
Code different programs to make their character move
Create custom game worlds by making their own graphics
Invent exciting power ups for their games
Use sequences, conditionals, for-loops, data types, and functions in their games
Troubleshoot their code for bugs
Design and develop a game for their final project

PYTHON CODING WITH MINECRAFT FOR GRADES 3-5
Python Coding with Minecraft is open to children in grades 3-5. In this class, Coder Kids will learn how to create their own code that enables them to teleport, build game artifacts, and add fun effect to their characters. No previous Python experience is required and a final project is included.
Dates: 2/7, 2/14, 2/21, 2/28, 3/6, 3/13, 3/20, 3/27

FIELD TRIP AND VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
You will need to have completed the "Protecting God's Children" Workshop and all the necessary volunteer forms, plus a background check prior to ANY field trip. Please check with Lynn Valenti (email@example.com) if you are unsure of your status. Please remember no siblings are allowed on school sponsored field trips.
Consider volunteering in our cafeteria! This is a great way to see your child(ren), meet their classmates, and get involved! Time commitments are conveniently broken down into two 1.5 hour shifts. Please use this link for more information and to sign up:

Donations will be accepted every first Tuesday of each month.
Thank you for your donations to the uniform closet! Right now, we are stocked up on pants, shorts and plain white polos (without the St. Gabriel logo). We DO need gym clothes, sweatshirts, and jumpers/kilts. Please remember to only donate items that are included in our school uniform (i.e. do not include underwear or non-uniform sweatshirts, etc.).
